Meet Our Coaches Head coach Mike Ofner and his
wife, technique coach Linda Ofner, are long time residents of Santa Barbara. The Ofners have over 20
years of coaching experience and are the undisputed heart of Ka Nai’a Outrigger.
Not only have Mike and Linda participated
in many state Iron and Sprint championships as both athletes and coaches, they
have both placed in several U.S. Distance Championships – Newport to Catalina
as well as World Distance KOA Division Champions from Molokai to Hawaii. The wealth of knowledge and expertise they have to share is invaluable to the club. Linda continues to participate and race as an active paddler; she is a true inspiration both on and off the water.
Both Mike and Linda teach outrigger canoeing classes at Santa Barbara City College and Westmont College; Mike as an adjunct instructor and Linda as a professional volunteer. Both also facilitate and teach the Ka Nai’a Summer Youth Outrigger Program in conjunction with the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department. The program includes kayak and stand-up paddling. They remind us all that KaNai'a is a small club with big heart; taught to train hard and never give up. ![]() CLUB RACE RESULTS: 2013: Cystal Pier Iron: Open Co-ed - 2nd Rig Run Iron: Open Men - 1st Open Women- 4th Short Course Women - 4th Marina Iron: Iron State Championships: 2012: Cystal Pier Iron: Short Course Women - 1st Rig Run Iron: Open Co-ed - 2nd Short Course Women - 3rd Short Course Men - 4th Marina Iron: Short Course Women - 4th Iron State Championships: Open Co-ed - 2nd Open Co -ed - 7th Dana Point Change: Open Co-ed - 2nd U.S. Catalina Distance Championship: Open Co-ed - 6th 2011: Rig Run Iron: Open Co-ed - 1st Marina Iron: Short Course Men - 4th Novice Co-ed - 2nd Ventura Iron: Novice Co-ed - 3rd |
